Meet Dr. Canary
Benjamin Canary, DMD, MMSc, MBE
Practicing orthodontics gives me personal and professional fulfillment as I create positive changes in my patients’ lives.
I love getting to know each patient throughout the course of their treatment. No matter the person’s age, each gains self-esteem and confidence as they see the change in their appearance. Witnessing a person’s excitement the day we take the braces off, and they see all they have accomplished, is the highlight of what I do: that person will carry the beautifully healthy, engaging smile with them for the rest of their life!
Orthodontics requires me to be a critical thinker and problem solver. Each patient has their own concerns and I must design a treatment plan that works for the whole of their situation, not only their clinical needs. No two individuals are the same, each with their own treatment goals, needs, and personalities, and those differences always keeps things fresh.
As a board-certified orthodontist, I do my best to combine my clinical expertise with a warm, patient-centered approach to treatment.
Education and Experience
- Boston College, Bachelor of Science in Biology and in History
- University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD)
- University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, Master of Bioethics (MBE)
- Harvard Orthodontics, Master of Medical Sciences (MMSc) and Certificate in Orthodontics
I graduated from my orthodontic residency in May 2018 and have been practicing orthodontics since then. I had the privilege of working alongside Dr. Todd Rowe for 10 years having known him as my clinical instructor during residency as well as a business partner and mentor in private practice.
This is an amazing practice that guarantees patients will receive the best orthodontic experience available, from excellent providers who always prioritize the patient’s wellbeing. Each member of the staff is fun-loving, problem-solving, compassionate, and friendly.
In addition to private practice, I have also served as part-time clinical faculty at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, teaching orthodontics since 2018. Being part of Harvard Orthodontics ensures I am well-versed in the latest technology and orthodontic techniques. I particularly enjoy hearing fresh ideas from other faculty and residents.
Continuing education, in both general dentistry and orthodontics, is a core part of my commitment to the profession and my patients. I seek to broaden my understanding and skills while learning about new methodologies and staying current with the latest research.

Beyond the Practice
Born in Springfield, MA, I grew up in New Milford, CT. I now live in Bolton, MA with my wife and daughter. Most of my extended family lives between MA and CT, so we are lucky to have had them so involved in our daughter’s life.
Outside the office, I enjoy time with family, hanging out with friends, and cheering for the Boston sports teams!
